Why is it good to lose weight?




The benefits you achieve from losing weight are effects that will last a life time. The long term health effects you get will probably be helpful when you are considering shedding the unwanted pounds and unhealthy eating habits.

There are marked advantages to shedding the unwanted excess pounds. One of the most obvious is a healthier heart. You can lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. This becomes a tri-benefit for losing weight, for the primary reason for disability and death both in men and women is heart related. Higher levels of cholesterol and triglycerides know as fat in the blood are risks associated with heart related problems, and these problems are not necessarily when you get older which is what most tend to believe.

By decreasing your body weight by as little as 5 to 10 percent will positively decrease the chances of you developing or having a heart disease or stroke. In addition to reducing the chance of heart disease and stroke, losing weight will effectively prevent type 2 Diabetes. Diabetes itself is a life threatening disease, and the complications from having diabetes makes life threatening occurrences happen more often.

Sleep apnea is one area that losing weight could prevent all together. Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing briefly and could cause heart failure. You could feel drowsy during the day and sleepless during the night directly related to sleep apnea. Shedding the pounds could eliminate this problem.

There are a number of cancers that are associated with excess weight. For women there are an increase in breast, colon, ovary, gallbladder, and uterus. For men it is colon, prostate, and rectum. This is not designed to scare you it is just meant to keep you informed. So avoiding a diet that is excess in fat and cholesterol should be considered when making a healthy decision.

One problem that affects mainly women is osteoarthritis, and when you have excess weight it puts extra pressure on your back, knees, hips and joints. The amount of pressure could be doubled if not tripled, when trying to walk or just moving through life as usual. Decreasing the weight load that you have to carry would decrease if not eliminate the pain associated with osteoarthritis.
